As Omaha has grown, so has AAA Nebraska. An affiliate of the
American Automobile Association, AAA Nebraska is best known
for its
motor club and travel services. However, its business
ventures don’t end
there. That’s just the beginning!
Starting in 1906 with a few hundred members, the motor club
has grown
into a statewide institution respected for its professional
excellence,
dedication to quality client service, and active role in
community
affairs. In addition to travel and motoring services, AAA
Nebraska’s
diversified interests include publishing, computer services,
insurance,
and financial services.
More than 200,000 Nebraskans faithfully renew their AAA
memberships each
year, entitling them to dozens of exclusive benefits and
services that
appeal to anyone who drives a car. AAA Nebraska’s emergency
road service
operators respond to nearly 97,000 emergency assistance
calls a year,
and AAA auto travel counselors create personalized trip
routings for
about 26,000 families a year. But statistics alone don’t
tell the whole
AAA Nebraska story.
In 1979, AAA Nebraska led the effort to create a travel and
leisure
publication that could be jointly used by AAA clubs in the
Midwest. The
following year, HOME & AWAY Publishing was born, which now
produces
three AAA club publications: Home & Away, Michigan Living,
and Car &
Travel. Home & Away is the official member magazine for 16
mid-America
clubs, with a current circulation of 3.3 million, making it
the 16th
largest magazine in the U.S. based on circulation.
One of AAA’s most popular services is available to members
and
non-members alike. AAA Travel Agency, a full-service travel
company,
provides air ticketing, cruise bookings, group tours, and
more from 11
locations across the state. Because of AAA’s national buying
power and
partnership programs, world-renowned travel industry corporations such
as Walt Disney World Travel Company, Hyatt Hotels, and Holland America
and Carnival Cruise lines extend special privileges and savings to AAA
travel agencies and their clients.
In a search for computer services and programs that would launch AAA in
to the next century, AAA Nebraska decided to design a motor club
software program that could be marketed to other automobile clubs across
the U.S. and Canada. Automation Inc., has done just that. With a staff
of 45 employees, Automation, Inc. is providing computer services and
systems for motor clubs that reach more than four million members.
But there is more to this diversified giant. In 1948, the Motor Club
Insurance Association was formed as an insurer of AAA member vehicles.
This Nebraska AAA company has a long history of providing outstanding
coverage at reasonable rates, making it the second-largest domestically
based insurer in Nebraska. In more recent years, the association has
expanded to include homeowner’s, life, and health insurance coverage.
AAA’s commitment to providing quality service to its members and clients
has also meant a strong commitment to the state and communities it
serves. Even in community service work, AAA’s expertise has filled vital
needs.
Looking to the future has been the key to AAA Nebraska’s success. AAA has
flourished in many ways as a result of its ability to offer its service expertise to others
outside the state, as well as outside the AAA network.
